Welcome to The Spotlight Series for 2017! One of my favourite things about my job is meeting new people and finding out about their business and their 'story', and I am so excited to be shining the spotlight on a whole new raft of businesses this year. First we have Claire Quy from The Aesthetic Collective, and I am so excited to share her story with you. People who are left brained & right brained fascinate me, and Claire is a perfect example of this - engineer by day, creative by night! Read more about Claire and her growing business below x
Can you share the story of why you started your business?
What do a Victoria’s Secret Model, Mechanical Engineering and Website Design all have in common? They all helped form the Aesthetic Collective. So random, but inspiration usually comes around when you least expect it!
Can you tell us more about your services?
At the Aesthetic Collective, we believe in a holistic approach to digital or online strategy, which encompasses websites and social media. We’re all about creating beautiful faces for the digital space. We believe that the business website forms backbone of the business’ online identity, and that great original content (both visual and written) fleshes out your identity while effective social media engagement is found in identifying the correct language in which to communicate with customers. We primarily offer website design and builds, but offer photography and copy writing as supplementary services to better strengthen our clients’ brands in the digital space.
What’s the best part about your job?
I’m currently working two jobs: Engineer by day, Website designer by night! And I absolutely love both. The best part about working under the Aesthetic Collective umbrella is overcoming challenges. I love learning and taking part in activities that help me grow and develop myself within my career. Funnily enough, they all just happen to involve me sitting on my bum all day, eyes glued to the computer screen!
Have I got any tips for others launching their business?
Getting all your documentation and workflows in place. Sure, you can prototype and tweak as your business grows but having the bulk of your processes down pat can save you heaps of stress when you finally launch. And don’t forget the importance of branding! Get your branding/media kit prepared by your trusty graphic designer! If you don’t, your digital branding will appear disjointed and messy. And try to avoid Fiver in creating your logo. Fiver is cheap because they just squish together prebuilt elements, which means that your logo isn’t unique and won’t necessarily convey your desired branding through. Remember: average products marketed well sell better than a great product marketed poorly (sad but true!).
Anything exciting in the pipeline?
The Aesthetic Collective may offer graphic design and logo creation next year so that we can provide a more well-rounded service to our customers.
And after running a successful branding and social media imagery workshop in last year, we’re looking to hold a few more in 2017. Follow us on social media to stay up to date!
