I have known the lovely Claire from Ello since September last year and we hit it off from the very first moment! Claire's incredibly professional and holistic approach towards her clients is so inspiring, as is her wonderful creativity. Read on to find out more about one of my favourite biz owners.
A little bit about me…
After I completed my degrees and further studies overseas I returned to help launch and manage a fashion retailer’s online store. It was here I recognised the need for many businesses to have a strategic online presence. Whether that was an e-commerce store, sound social media platforms or a combination, often their budgets would not allow them to approach larger agencies. This, combined with owners wearing all the 'hats' for their business, they could not absorb any more roles or participate in additional training. I also observed many of the same mistakes being made continuously; these had significant impacts on businesses longevity and success. I developed an ‘itch’ to help….

We also work with clients as business consultants - addressing any needs, facilitating collaborations, sourcing and contacting potential brands/labels, managing brand sponsors, etc. I am a big believer in collaboration and teamwork; this probably isolated me in the early stages of business. Many people I encountered couldn’t understand why I was referring whom they thought were clients of mine to other businesses. With time, I decided to combine and conquer – now I will often project manage for a client. This entails offering a complete suite of services, outsourcing and collaborating when needed. Benefits from approaching projects in this way is plentiful, from the client’s perspective - they only need to liaise, have meetings and make decisions with one person – me/the Ello team.
One of my aims with new clients is to take items off their To-Do list, allowing them to focus on what they do best. From here, creativity and results come into their own. I am passionate in helping businesses achieve current and new objectives that are realistic, on budget and hopefully above what they ever expected.
Favourite part of my job…
The favourite part of my job is definitely educating and helping others. I believe it is often underestimated how important the ability to relate to people and help match their goals with actionable plans and outcomes is. This was true with Ello, as I quickly learnt how different people are in business. Someone once told me that your ‘normal’ is not normal for others, everyone has his or her own ‘normal’. I try my best to remember this with every interaction, project and conversation I undertake in business.
What makes Ello different…
I found it difficult to summarise what Ello offers when I first began the business. Never wanting to place a limit on what or how I could help other businesses and individuals. Ello has grown and evolved over the years and I firmly believe we offer a very customised experience. With a background in business, economics and luxury marketing, I feel I equally balance the need for creativity and flair with a framework of business fundamentals. I am a big believer in planning and strategy; one of Ello's foundations is applying traditional marketing to modern platforms. I often tell clients this does not mean you need a 200 page business or digital plan – however having small (and big) goals, quantifiable objectives and real budgets are vital to sustained success whilst simultaneously limiting mistakes. As the economy hits its cyclical peaks and troughs businesses can protect themselves to a degree, especially in retail. A business needs to be clever, keep adapting, analysing and putting your best foot forward.
On the horizon…
Ello is a growing business and I have plans to expand both locally and internationally. Taking these early years to establish Ello’s business fundamentals, strengths and weaknesses was necessary and in my opinion the right choice. I will be heading overseas in the next few months to explore, research and attend some really exciting business events and opportunities.
I also hope to partake in more collaborations, in particular with businesses who have similar work ethics and principles – a uniting aim to build each other up. This concept is the heart and soul of Ello and I will always continue to pursue this path.
