I'd been an admirer of Jo's work for a long time before we finally met, over coffee and the best carrot cake I've had in my life (Gordon Street Garage for you carrot cake fans). I was so happy to find that Jo was even more impressive and lovely in person - you can tell Jo has a real passion for what she does, and for getting to know her clients on a personal level to make sure she can deliver the best results. Tell us more about your business and any specialties you have.
Joanne Tapodi Creative specialises in creative design solutions for small businesses and start-ups, including branding, logo design and design for print, web and social media. I work closely with each and every client to present their unique vision in the best way possible, and favour a collaborative approach to my projects. I have a strong focus on branding design for small business as well as offering branding advice, helping small businesses understand the importance of what their brand means and the best ways to market and represent their brand to their target audience.
Please give us a rundown of your services and any best sellers.
Joanne Tapodi Creative covers a broad range of graphic design services such as full branding projects, which include logo design, business stationery and website design; promotional design via print media, which includes press advertising, brochures, posters, newsletters, catalogues; as well as design for web and social media. I have no particular niche within graphic design, I love working on everything from a branding project to designing a simple DL flyer to designing an entire magazine or annual report.
At the moment though my best sellers are my branding packages. At the start of the year I developed a new set of branding packages that include a photography collaboration offering with the lovely Kat from Zahra Creative. Our website design + photography packages are proving to be quiet popular as clients see the benefits of receiving a specialised website design with images that authentically represent them and their brand.
What makes your business different to your competitors?
There are 2 things that I feel sets my business apart from my competitors…
1. My experience in the graphic design industry.
I’ve been a graphic designer for over 10 years and have worked within the large corporate advertising arena through to small boutique design studios with a handful of people. I have worked on a full time basis and also had the opportunity to work on contract at majority of Perth’s best-known advertising agencies, and have worked with some of the most talented graphic designers that Perth has to offer. I was also the creative director of Scoop Publishing for almost 2 years before I returned to contracting and then ultimately working for myself. I feel that this diverse range of experience has taught me so much through my career and given me the tools to achieve the best results for my clients.
2. The personalised and hands on approach I take with all my clients and projects.
I understand that starting and growing a business is both exciting and scary, I guide my clients toward reaching their goals through my graphic design abilities, knowledge and experience. My ultimate purpose is assisting clients in creating a brand that they can be proud of, a brand that is a stand out success and achieves their unique vision and values. To do this I feel I need to be personally invested in their project and understand what they want to achieve to help them get there.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
It’s a fantastic feeling to be part of a client’s branding project and to share that exciting journey with them. I love the personal experience that comes from being part of something that is so close to a persons heart, so when the project is finished and the client is happy with the results it’s a satisfying moment to know that I have helped build on their dreams and goals.
Anything exciting on the horizon for your business?
Every day is exciting! Honestly though I do get so much satisfaction from my work and there are always fantastic projects around the corner. I am also excited about designing the new SALTED magazine by The Perth Collective. Having spent 2 years in publishing editorial design is something I love doing and the opportunity rarely comes about, so it is very exciting to work on the magazine as well as the inspiring & informative content that will be in it!
