I am so excited to introduce The Spotlight Series readers to the very gorgeous Emily Osmond from Good Media. Emily emailed me after having found me on the New Beginnings Fair vendor list (remember the awesome trade fair I did in Sydney at the start of this year?) and I felt instantly this lady was somebody I wanted to learn more about - I loved the ethos of Emily's brand and we both seemed to have a similar mission with our clients. Emily and I met in person on my recent visit to Melbourne and it felt like we had known each other forever! I know I will be having lots more to do with Emily over the coming years and I definitely recommend getting in touch if you are in Melbourne! Read more about Emily & Good Media below
Tell us more about your business and any specialties you have.
I started Good Media because it really pained me to see lovely business owners being given really outdated marketing advice and services. I also hated seeing them paying for generic advice that wasn’t actually going to make a difference to their business.
My business started organically, with females in generally the lifestyle and health industries seeing my writing or the work from my digital marketing role (I was living in a regional city and managing one of the main social media profiles for the area, so it was a great way to connect with people!), and getting in touch. Then, in February 2015, I quit my job and jumped into working for myself full time, with a few clients on board and many more to come over this past year and a half.
I love to work with female business owners on strategies for their social media, particularly Facebook advertising and Instagram; their brand positioning (which is so much more than a logo); their content marketing (it’s all about giving value to your audience and building trust and loyalty) and strategic collaborations and campaigns (lots of fun!).
Please give us a rundown of your services and any best sellers.
Brand positioning - it’s really important for business owners to think outside of the status quo and put strategic thought into every element of their brand so that they are continually delighting their audience. Not easy, but that’s where I love to help! Your brand is every little thing about your business, from the names of your services, to the way you answer the phone. It’s a huge opportunity to make a difference.
Instagram Makeovers - the aesthetic and tone of voice of one’s Instagram is so important. These makeovers include a mood board, suggested content and scheduling, captions, hashtags, and a whole lot more! For newbies to Instagram or those feeling stuck, I find this a really popular one.
Marketing Makeovers - these are great fun and help business owners get clear about their priorities. I take a really holistic approach to look at all the major aspects of their business and marketing to get them working together. Your marketing MUST be integrated to be effective. Most of my clients choose to book in several sessions to continue to learn and implement strategies and tools to get their marketing really powered up.
Campaign design and/or management - the ‘big’ one. I’ve worked with some fantastic events and companies to design and manage their whole marketing campaigns, including the Clunes Booktown Festival, which attracts 18,000 people! I love the crazy event world and creating unique campaigns to get people in the door!
And my workshops - I love the energy in the room at these. There are often collaborations that come out of them between the ladies who attend. It’s great to see! I currently run these workshops in Ballarat and Melbourne: Instagram Marketing, Creating Beautiful Content and Product Styling & Photography - a collaborative workshop with photographer Samantha Kencis.
What makes your business different to your competitors?
This week, something a new client said to me really resonated. She told me that she had come to me because she had so many ideas and avenues she’s thinking about going in for her business, but doesn’t know where to start. She wanted someone independent of her business to help her but someone who ‘gets’ all the different avenues she’s looking at, rather than being specialised in just one thing.
I instantly told her how good it was to hear this, as it’s one of the reasons I started Good Media and something that sets me apart from some other businesses. I don’t focus only on social media, just content marketing, just events, just design… You need all of your marketing working together to be able to actually have a powerful impact.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
Seeing my clients enjoying their success. If it’s Instagram marketing that they just haven’t enjoyed or haven’t understood, and then they have that moment when it ‘clicks’ or they’ve had great engagement, or made a direct sale from a post (some clients ring me to tell me as they’re so excited - I love it!). These are the best parts of running my business.
Any exciting events or launches you'd like to share?
I recently attended the New Beginnings Fair in Melbourne on August 19th as a vendor. It’s the biggest step I’ve taken for my business in terms of putting myself out there. I saw you, Lanna, had been and heard you found it brilliant for your business (you had only just launched at the time and flew over from Perth - so impressed!). Meeting all the new business owners was a real highligh – I love the excitement and passion when business ideas are flowing.
I’m also about to record my new online courses. I have lots of women living interstate who can’t make it to my marketing workshops, so I’m going to be offering specially designed online courses to meet this need. Lots of how-to videos and worksheets to apply what you learnt to your business. I can’t wait to launch!
