I love it when you hear about a business idea that is so simple, yet so awesome – and something you haven’t heard of before. In my line of work, I hear a lot of business ideas! Sarah’s Sydney-based business Meetings Into Minutes is one of those businesses – simple, yet so useful to so many different types of business owners out there. I know of many larger businesses who would benefit from engaging with a business like Sarah’s. Read more about Meeting to Minutes below x
Can you share the story of why you started your business?
My mind has always raced in many different directions and I knew I ultimately wanted to be my own boss. When I was getting married, my business idea was to provide luxury hampers to the wedding party for when they were getting their photos done on location, so everyone could enjoy some bubbles and more importantly, allow the bride and groom to nibble on some seriously good food. I then had a child and my next idea was to set up a space for mother’s groups to go, so we weren’t all sitting on the floor of the local pub… but then of course I went back to my paid work and life got in the way and my ideas were just that.
For as long as I can remember I’ve always attended meetings and taken down the minutes. I have no qualms about walking into a room and knowing I can accurately reflect the outcomes discussed. Minutes are the one thing people want to avoid in the corporate world - no one likes them and everyone is trying their best to flick the task to someone else. Finally, I felt like I was on a winner with my idea and Meetings Into Minutes was born. I offer a simple, yet effective B2B service for corporates who either do not have enough work flow to keep an EA busy, or small businesses who only require my services for ad hoc meetings, or even offshore businesses that fly in and fly out for business specific purposes.
Tell us more about the services you offer.
My service is to attend your meeting in person and have a draft set of minutes back to you within 2 business days or less. No more rushing to get the last set of minutes done just before the next meeting, trying to decipher notes which now make no sense weeks down the track. I do the job you hate to do! I have been a Justice of the Peace for the last 4.5 years, therefore I am able to certify or witness documents which arise from the meeting.
Another service I offer which is not advised on my website, is corporate presentations, reports and newsletters. A client may need help with tweaking an investor report or a client presentation and I can whip it into shape for small businesses who struggle with making a document acceptable to circulate.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I love to be involved, and taking minutes helps in a small but useful way by providing a project or team with a service which frees up their time for other important issues.
What’s your #1 tip for those just launching their business?
Launching a business can be daunting, but my number one tip would be to believe in yourself and your ability. It’s easier to talk yourself out of something and doubt yourself, but there are 101 other reasons to keep going when you dream, believe and achieve.
